I have a Motorola cell phone V235. I cannot find the CD that came with it and therefore I cannot get my pictures off my phone. Submitted: 6 years ago. Why does the CD installation for Motorola Phone Tools 5.0 and related update NOT have the Menu Transfer for transfering pictures form Motorola VU204 cell phone to Microsoft XP. Motorola Phone Tools version 5.27r is compatible with WINDOWS 7. There are several reasons that could cause your phone not to be detected. Please follow this trouble shooting guide to detect and resolve any issues.

1. Installing MPT

  • Do not connect your phone to your computer until you are instructed to do so.
  • Insert the Motorola Phone Tools installation CD into your computer.
  • Choose your language.
  • Select Next
  • Select I agree
  • Select Complete Installation
  • Select Next
  • The install begins.
  • Select Register or Register Later.
  • Enter your information and Select Submit.
  • Select Next
  • Select Finish
  • When MPT launches Live Update will open.
  • Select Next to check for available software updates.
  • Create a unique user profile for your mobile phone.
  • Select OK, when the update is complete.

2. Connecting your phone to your Computer

Scenario 1

  • Connect your phone to your computer with your Motorola branded USB cable.
  • The phone should automatically connect to Motorola Phone Tools.

Scenario 2

  • Connect your phone to your computer with your Motorola branded USB cable.
  • Your phone should automatically display several options
  • Select Data/Modem
  • Open Motorola Phone Tools
  • Select or Create a New profile
  • Select Cable
  • Select Next
  • Select Finish

Scenario 3

  • Connect your phone to your computer with your Motorola branded USB cable.
  • Select Menu
  • Select Settings
  • Select Connections
  • Select USBsettings
  • Select Data/modem
  • Open Motorola Phone Tools
  • Select or Create a New Profile
  • Select Cable
  • Select Next
  • Select Finish

Scenario 4

  • Connect your phone to your computer with your Motorola branded USB cable.
  • Select Settings and Tools
  • Select Modem Mode

Syncing Contacts/Calendar

  • Select Welcome on the left hand side
  • Select Contents
  • Select Synchronize my contacts, calendar, or tasks on the right hand side
  • Select Synchronize now.
  • Place a check beside the items you would like to sync
  • Select Synchronize
  • Select Content on the upper left hand side
  • Select Synchronize my contacts, calendar, or tasks
  • Select Synchronize now
  • Place a check in the box next to the items you would like to sync; Contacts or Calendar
  • Select Synchronize

Backing up Files (Music, Pictures, Videos, Apps)

  • Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable
  • Place your phone into Modem Mode
  • Go to the My Computer view of MPT
  • Select from the drop down menu the directory you would like to save your files
  • Go to the Mobile Phone view
  • Select a File to be transferred
  • Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard
  • Select other files you would like to transfer to your Computer
  • Release the CTRL key on your keyboard
  • Select the Arrow pointing towards the Computer
  • The file has been copied to your computer

Access the Backup/Restore Wizard

  • Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable
  • Place your phone into Modem Mode
  • From the Home Screen go to Backup/Restore
  • Select the Backup or Restore Option (depending on what you would like to do)
  • Follow the instructions on the screen
  • Select Finish

Note: The mobile phone contacts, calendar and tasks are saved locally in a .csv file.

Troubleshooting Motorola Phone Tools

1.Is the customer connected to MPT (Motorola Phone Tools)?

If the customer is connected to MPT they will be able to view MPT's Home Page.

2. Power cycle the Phone and the PC

  • Disconnect the phone
  • Power the phone off and on
  • Restart the computer
  • Connect the phone
  • Do not open MPT for 3 minutes
  • Create anew profile
  • Try Again

3. Is the phone being recognized by computer? Is the customer using a docking station or USB hub? (If yes have the customer undock or remove the hub. We only support a direct connection into the computer.) Plug phone directly into the computer. Do not plug phone into the monitor or keyboard. If phone isn't recognized at all or is recognized as a mass storage device, you need to adjust the phone settings so that they reflect either Data or Modem.

  • Select Menu
  • Select Settings
  • Select Connections
  • Select USB Settings
  • Select DATA or MODEM
  • Try Again

4. Does the customer have the correct version of MPT?

a.Checking the version of MPT, when MPT is in Phone Mode

  • Select Menu
  • Select Welcome
  • Select Contents
  • Select Help
  • Select AboutMotorolaPhoneTools

b.Checking the version of MPT, when MPT is not open.

  • Double Click on MyComputer
  • Double Click on C:
  • Double Click on ProgramFiles
  • Double Click on MotorolaPhoneTools
  • Double Click on Aboutn.ini

c.Check the version of MPT your phone requires. Select the link listed below to determine which version of Motorola Phone Tools your phone requires. If the phone isn't listed there, the phone is not compatible with MPT ver5.

5. If the version of MPT you are using is lower than the version of MPT that is recommended for your phone, you should update Motorola Phone Tools.

  • Select Start
  • Select AllPrograms
  • Select MotorolaPhoneTools
  • Select MotorolaLiveUpdate
  • Try Again

6. Make sure that the customer has the minimum requirements.

a. Windows 2000, XP SP2, Vista

b. Outlook 2003 SP2, Outlook 2007, Outlook Express, Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts and Lotus Notes. (If requirements aren't met, Phone Tools will not sync.)

7. Reinstalling Drivers

  • Disconnect the phone
  • Select Start
  • Select AllPrograms
  • Select MotorolaDriverInstaller
  • Select MotorolaDriverInstaller.exe
  • Select CleanandReinstall
  • Select Start
  • Connect the phone
  • Create a new profile
  • Try Again

8. Make sure the customer removes any other sync software which may be on the pc. If the customer does have other sync software on the computer follow the steps listed below.

  • Select Start
  • Select ControlPanel
  • Select AddorRemovePrograms
  • Select the sync software
  • Select Remove

9. Is the Motorola USB modem showing up correctly in Phone and Modem Options?

  • Select Start
  • Select ControlPanel
  • Select PhoneandModemOptions
  • Select the ModemTab
  • You should see Motorola USB modem listed once with a com port attached. If you do see more than one Motorola USB modem, delete all Motorola USB modems except for the one attached to a com port.
  • Try Again.

10.Is the phone installed as a modem? (Go to Device Manager)

  • Right click on MyComputer
  • Select Properties
  • Select the HardwareTab
  • Select DeviceManager
  • Select the plus sign to the left of Modems. You should see Motorola USB modem, with no characters there. If there are characters there such as an X or exclamation mark,
  • right click on the modem
  • Select updatedriver
  • Try Again.

11. Reinstalling MPT with updates

  • If you have verified that the customer has an updatable version of MPT, 4.04b and up, you may send the customer the MPT link. If the customer's version of MPT is lower than 4.04b, the customer will have to purchase MPT.
  • Select Start
  • Select ControlPanel
  • Select AddorRemovePrograms
  • Select MotorolaPhoneTools
  • Select Remove
  • Select MotorolaDriverInstaller
  • Select Remove
  • Select OK
  • Reboot the computer,
  • Reinstall MPT with updates.
  • Try Again.
