If you need a primer on international politics in 1975, this is your book. Much of the pleasure is watching Fallaci flatter powerful men into revealing themselves.
Superb book. What a journalist Oriana was, highly recommended for my fellow journalists and for those who really want to excel in communication industry

Forgot how important this author/book was to me in my late teens/early twenties until today when I saw her name pop up in a column in the Chron. She's one of the reasons I went to J school, although I realized later it wasn't a good career choice for me.
Amazing writer; complicated and strong woman!

Great piece of history presented in an interesting way by sharp written interviews. Oriana seems to be very clever and fair journalist, what can't be said often.

Fantastic book with insightful interviews. Reading them almost half a century later makes them that more interesting.
An excellent collection of some of the most influential interviews throughout the history. Perusing over the pages, one is filled with a combination of feelings; love, hatred, sympathy, and surprise, and agony. It's hard to believe that some events over the history have actually happened and how world leaders of 70s appeared like gods who could save and claims millions of lives.
I read this book in 1976, in thick of the revolution. I agreed and enjoyed everything she said. 37 years later, I was re-arranging my books and found this TRASH again. I am so sorry in my youth and naivete, I believed how she described the Shah of Iran. I was and still am anti-Shah's policies, but I hate liars even more. 'the knickknacks covered with rubies and sapphires, the corners of the table. And in that absurd and irritating glare of gold, emeralds, rubies and sapphires,I sat for ..'O.F.

Where do I begin in the praise of this remarkable woman and her interview with the most notable players of the power game of her time. She asks the right questions mostly, and gets great, meaningful answers.
Its intriguing to look at these people in hindsight and judge the impact they had on history and if their predictions come true. Several of the people interviewed were assassinated, Bhutto and Panagoulis to name two, the former intrigued her and she fell in love with the latter. So there's a

Recommends it for: journalists, cold war historians, wonks
Oriana Fallaci was like a rabid dog who ripped to shreds the likes of dictators and political buffoons; she was also quite charming and used her wiles to crumble her subjects' self-perception.
Her interviews function in part as histories of key political figures during the Cold War. They are painful and satisfying to read as she jabs pins in the facade that is politics and insults leaders for everything from their taste in coffee and their choice of wardrobe to their military policy.

Fallaci is to the political interview what Terri Gross is to the artistic one. Her formal, flinty preparedness and bravura questions call to mind a matador unafraid to break with convention, brandishing an irresistible cape -- it could be any size or color -- and then stepping deftly out of the way.
That said, the interviews compiled in this book are inevitably dated. Sometimes that makes for great reading, when one revisits historical detail not much discussed anymore, and often finds a nugget o

A selection of interviews compiled as a book. Fallaci is concise, daring, brilliant and knows how to get to the heart and soul of the famous political figures she interviews. I am a long term devotee of Fallaci and think of her as the best in her field. The book is a little dated, but the all fourteen interviews come alive. When I got to the last one, Alexandros Panagoulis, I was on verge of tears in reading what the Greek Junta did to him. All interviews are revealing and to me were worth readi..more
Oriana Fallaci is a goddess. I can't believe any of the men interviewed by her in this book agreed to do it for any other reason than they wanted to marry her. Then she made them all reveal themselves as evil, or stupid, or both. The Kissinger interview is awesome, as is the Ali Bhutto one. But they're all awesome, with the possible exception of some old Italian socialist who put me to sleep near the end of the book.
It's easy to see why the women (Golda Meir, Indira Ghandi) agreed to be intervie

Excellent read, especially for contemporary history buffs! I especially enjoyed the interviews with Golda Meir and Lech Walesa.
Oriana Fallaci was a very skilled interviewer. Her analysis and commentary, in combination with her interviews with certain leaders like Khomeini, Qaddafi, Bhutto, and Indira Gandhi, are very insightful.
Warning: many face palm moments..
4 stars because of poor editing: so many grammatical and spelling errors, missing words..

Truly one of the greatest political journalists ever. Her skills as an interviewer and her courage in asking tough questions of heroes and tyrants alike, remain unsurpassed. Though this book is decades old, I recently reread it, and the relevance remains, for figures like Henry Kissinger, Golda Meir, Yassir Arafat, benazair Bhutto, etc., had an extraordinary impact on the world as we know it today. This is a brilliant collection of exceptional interviews by an extraordinary woman.

Such a successful (and generally rare) mix of politics, history, and journalist craft. Fallaci is opinionated and unapologetic in her interviews with (and hence portrayal of) these historically influential figures, all the while she accomplishes to render them as the complex characters they are . The intensity of the interviews permeates every page.

Interviews with heroes and villains by one of the most extraordinary journalists ever.
THIS BOOK IS A CLASSIC. Must read for would be journalists, or simply anyone

of the world best and worst leaders.

What a woman! I read this book simply to try to understand Oriana Fallaci and how come she earned herself the status of one of the most inquiring (to put it lightly) journlist of the past century. And I was not disappointed.

I first read this one in the early 80's. It may seem dated now, and Fallaci disgraced herself a bit, but this remains a vivid look, up close, at Power.
My political identity is 'anti-power' and I got that designation from her book, a long time ago.
She is just a great journalist and this book proves that. Very interesting. I recommend it.

Worth the price of admission for the Kissinger interview alone. An extraordinary woman.
Great book. Extraordinary story with history.
A must read though there are certain personalities who carry no weight in modern world.yet thought provoking about a political journalist mind who went so far ahead in pursuing the goals she desired.

Oriana Fallaci was born in Florence, Italy. During World War II, she joined the resistance despite her youth, in the democratic armed group 'Giustizia e Libertà'. Her father Edoardo Fallaci, a cabinet maker in Florence, was a political activist struggling to put an end to the dictatorship of Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini. It was during this period that Fallaci was first exposed to the at..more
